SEND at Marriotts School – Our Team and Approach

LTR

Hello and welcome. I’m Mrs Lesley Tether, Assistant Head and Director of SEND and Inclusion at Marriotts School. I’m proud to lead a dedicated and experienced SEND team, working alongside our committed teaching staff to ensure every student with additional needs feels supported and able to thrive.

Our department includes two qualified SENCos, a Primary Specialist Teacher, an INCo for SEMH, an Operations & Access Coordinator, and a team of Teaching Assistants. Together, we provide tailored support across three levels:

Our Support Model

We follow Hertfordshire’s Ordinarily Available Provision and extend it through a three-tiered approach:

  • Universal Support
Inclusive classrooms, adaptive teaching, and positive relationships form the foundation of our provision. Staff use strategies like scaffolding, visuals, and dyslexia-friendly resources, supported by student profiles and Pen Portraits.

  • Targeted Support
For students needing more help, we offer interventions in literacy, speech and language, mentoring, and emotional regulation. We also provide access to dedicated spaces within school designed to support students with specific learning or emotional needs, helping them regulate, catch up, or build confidence in a quieter environment.

  • Specialist Support
For students with more complex needs, we work with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, ASD and Speech & Language advisory teams, CAMHS, and Ask Sali. We also offer tailored provision through specialist spaces that support students with significant SEMH challenges or those needing help reintegrating into lessons.

Why It Matters

We’ve seen real impact—students making progress, growing in confidence, and feeling more secure in their learning. Our staff continue to develop their expertise through regular training, and we regularly review our provision to ensure we’re meeting every learner’s needs.

We’re proud of our SEND provision and the dedicated team behind it. Our goal is simple: to help every student reach their potential.
