Ukraine

We have all been deeply saddened and horrified by the events in Ukraine over recent days, which strike at the heart of humanity.

For some members of our community the war is having a direct personal impact.

The well-being of our students, staff and our wider community is of paramount importance to us and, as a school, we will ensure that we will do all we can to support our ‘Marriotts Family’, whilst at the same time doing what we can to support the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in the Ukraine.

In School, we will be using Assemblies and Form Time to focus on key events as they unfold, and encouraging our students to ask questions and talk to us about their concerns.

As we see images of people fleeing their homes and becoming separated from their families to take refuge in neighbouring Countries, whilst those remaining taking cover in basements and bomb shelters, you may be thinking what we at Marriotts can do to help.

Whilst Herts County Council are advising Headteachers that financial donations may be the most effective means of providing support to families in need, we have this week joined efforts with our community to support Hope and Aid Direct in collecting the most needed items for those people of Ukraine who are both fleeing the country and those still in the country.  Next week we as a School want to focus our efforts on collecting much needed medical and first aid supplies.  These include items such as:

  • First aid kits
  • Thermometers
  • Paracetamol/Ibuprofen (for adults and children)
  • Cold/Flu treatment
  • Antiseptic cream/Sudacrem
  • Imodium or similar
  • Bandages/field bandages
  • Sterile dressings
  • Surgical tape
  • Wound closure strips
  • Multivitamins
  • Barrier cream
  • Cough syrup
  • Antiseptic body wipes
  • Hand gel
  • Sterilising Tablets
  • Disposable nappies

Could you please send any donations in to school where they will be collected weekly ready to be transported directly to the Ukrainian Border.

In addition to collecting medical and first aid items, we also want to make a financial donation to the Ukrainian Red Cross and have set up a Ukraine Donation item within School Gateway.  If you would like to contribute to the Marriotts Family donation please make your donation via School Gateway – even the smallest amount will help as together we can make a difference.  Alternatively, you can make your donation directly to the Ukraine Red Cross by visiting:

On behalf of the Marriotts Family, I would like to thank you for your support.

The following is further information on some of the Charities asking for donations:

Hope and Aid Direct: We exist to help those who are unable to help themselves due to war, poverty and displacement.  How do we do this?
We take your donations. We obtain the aid that is needed right now

We drive the aid directly to those who need it. Over 95% of what you donate is used for transportation of humanitarian aid and procurement, with only a small amount being used for admin and other costs.
